Who is Jesus Christ?
Before anything else in the Christian faith makes sense, this question has to be answered. Everything depends on who Jesus actually is.
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
What Scripture says
Scripture does not present Jesus as a wise teacher who was later promoted. It presents Him as the eternal Word of God who became a man, lived among us, and revealed the Father to us.
What this means
If Jesus is God in the flesh, then His words are not advice, His death is not a tragedy, and His resurrection is not a legend. It means God came to find you rather than waiting for you to climb up to Him.
Go deeper
Read the first chapter of John slowly. Notice how it deliberately echoes the opening of Genesis: in the beginning. John is telling you that the man you are about to meet was there before the world was made.

Think about it
Who have you assumed Jesus to be up to now — a teacher, a myth, a disappointment, a stranger? What would change if He is exactly who He said He is?

Read one chapter of the Gospel of John each day this week and write down one thing Jesus says or does that surprises you.

Lord Jesus, if you are who the Bible says you are, show me. Open my eyes. I want to know you, not just know about you. Amen.
